The Green Bay Packers Select: Matt Flynn (QB-LSU)

I was hoping for Andre Woodson. That’s what I get for hoping.

Don’t let me say that as indictment of Matt Flynn. He’s not a player that you’re in love with, but the fact of the matter is, he brings more to the table than Brohm. Athleticism? It goes to Flynn. Arm? It goes to Flynn. Durability? It goes to Flynn. Leadership? It goes to Flynn.

The only thing Brian Brohm has more in terms of is on-field decision making. I think Matt Flynn could be the better pro*.

(Statement void if they sign a veteran.)

  1. I agree that Flynn brings the Pack more than Brohm. Flynn is a highly underrated QB who produced at LSU. His first start was a Peach Bowl in 2006 when Jamarcus Russell was hurt. He came into the game with leadership, ran the offense, ran and threw touchdowns, routing Miami 40-3. He sat on bench next year behind Russell. He performed extremely well in national championship year against very physical SEC defenses, having only a couple “bad quarters,” from which he always recovered and finished strong. I should add this team showed great confidence in his leadership.

I think Packers fans will be pleasantly surprised at how this pick turns out.

  2. I agree with Robert. I’m from Louisiana and an LSU Tiger fan; it’s also my alma mater. Matt reminds me of Joe Montana – not necessarily the most talented – but my gosh, what an onfield leader! He just knows how to win! Matt is going to be the next Brett… I congratulate the Pack on their pick!

  4. Glad you guys think so highly of Flynn. All year me and my roommate at school were singing his praises, I mean he played against the toughest defenses in the country, has a great arm, and his athleticism is extremely underrated. His speed is a great asset. Brian Brohm is great, but Flynn played against much stiffer competition and I think he will definitely make a better NFL quarterback. Rodgers looked good against Dallas, but watch out folks, Matt Flynn is the real deal!

    GO BAYOU BENGALS!

  5. I agree with all of the positives on Matt Flynn. Whenever he got 1st team reps at LSU he produced BIG TIME. Give him a chance to learn the NFL and he will surprise you. Besides in about 16 seasons with king Brett you got 1 Superbowl and a BUNCH of untimely interceptions including the one that killed you against the Giants. Give Rodgers and Flynn a chance. By the way I’m an LSU & Saints fan but I’ve always liked Green Bay.
