Never let it be said you can’t be a principled opportunist…

Filed under: Political Falderol,Political Mainlining — by Andrew @ 2:55 pm

The GOP has become a more radicalized, regionalized party. It goes without saying, one of my chatter friends was going to vote Republican. But the final push of the last month of the election kind of soured him on the Republican process.

Now I have to wonder what his opinion on the Specter defection to the Democrats is. Politically? He’s going to likely be in the Lieberman-Bayh portion of the Democratic Party. And you know what? That’s fine for him. It will keep him in power. Ridiculously old senators who sound like once respected newsmen is as American as Apple Pie.

Sure, his last move as a Republican was to come out against the Employee Free Choice Act. But that’s an easy fix, so long as he allows the vote, odds are he can vote no.

And personally? He just clinched a return to the Senate for another six years. Putative Republican nominee Pat Toomey will likely get launched. He couldn’t backdoor another term Lieberman style. He probably had to find a way to get out, and the swine flu is how he gets it.

For the GOP? They’re in the weeds. Not to say they can’t get out. Going to 2006 from 2002 was a revolutionary change in party affiliation. But Michael Steele’s looking good for saying that he would challenge the L:incoln Chaffee wing of the Republican party to get all fresh to death as Arch-Conservatives.

This also means that they lose a different part of leverage, because a smart Democratic party would tie the redrawing of committee seats to the seating of the elected Senator from Minnesota in Al Franken.

And the Club for Growth is another albatross for the GOP.

For the Dems? It can be win-win. Letting those of bifurcated opinions have a real voice in the party will allow them to keep the party going longer. I know I’ve railed against Lieberman, but I personally don’t like him. Specter sounds like former newsman Edwin Newman and tells bad jokes. That’s awesome.

And tell Joe Biden he’s earned a mistimed statement or three. If you want to call a random black man Donovan McNabb? Mazel Tov.

So until Auto-tune the news goes up and gives you the definitve take. It’s back to sports for me.

You know what?

I should have fucking seen being disappointed coming. Barack Obama has just cemented the fact that we will torture again. We will find people that the ruling party disagrees with, and we will torture again. A lack of punishment in government for governmental political crimes cements something worse.

Watergate begat Bush. World War I begat World War II. And this is going to lead to something worse down the road. We cannot look forward until we exorcize the demons. It is not retribution. It is necessary and it is proper. If you are ordered to do something wrong you should face the consequences.

We have vultures from the Bush administration circling around. And the Republican party, despite it’s reactionary kant, will find its way out of the weeds. Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz saw what happened with Watergate. Imagine what someone will do with the opportunity the Obama administration is trying to make.

They say that torture is dead as an American policy. And even if you give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. That leaves a simple and obvious question.

What’s to stop the next administration from giving torture the rebirth?

If this be Hillary Clinton’s end?

Let me just say one thing.

The fact that Hillary Clinton’s advisors ran such a supremely awful campaign and still nearly won the deal speaks volumes about the Clinton name and appeal.

No, I’m not going to put up the shrill Hillary supporter from the Rules and Bylaws committee that called Barack Obama an inadequate black man. No.

I’m just going to say that if Hillary took a principled stand in the Senate? Maybe the idiocy of Mark Penn and Howard Wolfson would not have been death.

And yet? Being all ZOMG I WAN VICE PRESIDEN! It’s not cool. It reeks of desperation. Non-awesome.

I’m about to telegraph my nerdy…

If you didn’t know already, and even if Phillip Rivers told you to ask somebody.

I just have one brief thought. If the Democratic Rules and Bylaws committee wants their meetings to have the decorum of a Maury Povich Baby Mamma Drama episode, could we at least have a Putt-Putt Prom Queen make motions instead of Carl Levin?

She would make this at least watchable.

Who wants to touch me?

You know why Barack Obama is having trouble with the White Working Class?

He’s Gay.

Really. Barack Obama is gay.

Don’t believe me? Watch this.

Unimpeachable. Evidence.

Don’t believe me? Look at the man again. He’s wearing a hat.

A blue hat. You can trust anyone that wears a blue hat to be unimpeachable when it comes to salacious claims. Barack Obama is now a Gay Black Adulterer.

Nobody’s gonna vote for him in the South. Shame. Really.

The Blue Hat has ruined this election.

It’s Over! Clinton Wins!

May 7, 2008

But Let’s Be Honest…

Obama’s not rid of Hillary. While she may be running what some non-existent tag team partners would deftly call the “Eight Belles” portion of her campaign. There are things that a Democratic Candidate needs to win that Hillary Clinton has. And if you’re thinking that that’s why this campaign has lasted over a year? You get a sticker!

PLUM FANTASTIC!

For you see? What does Hillary have that may not go to Barack Obama?

WE LOVE POLITICS AS USUAL!

Thus? We may ask ourselves. Where do we go from here? Do we really ask her to get behind Obama and become the Vice President? Now she might say yes.

But is she looking for a co-presidency? You can’t say for sure.

But does Obama go for one of his supporters (and Bill Richardson would be too perfect to make sense), or off on some wacky tangent (a.k.a. hey Lincoln Chaffee can we has unity)? Perhaps. Though if you decide to go your own way, you do need to balance the ticket. Kathleen Seibelus or Tom Vilsack would be an awful choice for the VP.

I have two names. They’re just a little bit off the beaten path. They may not be the most obvious choices, but trust in them. They feed the need for a balanced ticket.

1. Ed Rendell (Governor-Pennsylvania)

Yes, Ed Rendell rolled up on us with a statement that there’s some white people who were just not going to vote for Barack. But you know what? They’ll vote for Rendell to be a heartbeat away the presidency. (I’ll let the Blogosphere make their own jokes here…)

But honestly, he’s the Blue Collar guy. He’s a moderate. He’s folksy. And he’s very media-polished. An Obama-Rendell ticket would be made of victory.

2. General Wesley Clark (He’s a retired 4-star general)

Some of you may not remember him. Let’s put it this way. He was the Fred Thompson of 2004. He came into the campaign with a great deal of hype and fell on his face with Epic Fail. But while his politics may not have changed, his television polish absolutely has. He knows how to present himself.

His flaw? Well, I’m sure there is one. No candidate is the perfect storm. Especially for Vice President.

But if you add a Clinton surrogate? Hillary will fight for you. And you know what else?

It’s good to have the politically dirty on your side.

Back. To. Sports.

You may want to keep one ear to the ground on the Mainstream Media

You may have heard that Barack Obama took down North Carolina. It was supposed to be a game-changer for Hillary. And yet? Mr. Obama won by fourteen.

And all night in Indiana, Obama’s been chipping away. 18′s become 16. 14′s become 12. He’s been hanging around, as Teddy KGB would say. The Kid’s got alligator blood.

But why pay attention? Lake County has no votes reported. Lake County is the home of one Gary, Indiana. Consider two things.

1. Obama has been trending at over 90% amongst African-Americans.
2. Lake County has over 487k people.

I don’t know the exact demographic breakdown. But with this and LaPorte County, which is next to three Obama, a lead of less than 40,000 votes could disappear in an instant. And if even if he doesn’t pull the sweep? It’s a big night.

But if he does?

IT’S A TRAP REPUBLICANS!

UPDATE: Never mind. Flip to your mainstream media at 12 AM EDT.

UPDATE II (ELECTRIC BOOGALOO): Obama’s got it down to 19,970 votes!

UPDATE III: Hillary’s cancelled her morning show appearances. Could mean nothing. But…

UPDATE IV: You know who Obama owes for getting to this point?

He is the gift that keeps on giving.

UPDATE V: If the Gary numbers project out, Obama wins.

UPDATE VI: 95% in, General Ackbar’s down by 16,609.

UPDATE VII: NBC just reported that Hillary Clinton is holding no public events tomorrow. We’d earlier reported that she’d cancelled her morning show appearances. But that’s not that surprising. There’s not a lot good to talk about. But canceling all public appearances, if that’s what they’re saying, is a different story.

UPDATE VIII: Chuck Todd and Murray.

BROTHERS FROM A DIFFERENT MOTHER!

UPDATE IX: So maybe we should disregard the TV Appearances, eh?

UPDATE X: 22,000 Votes may drag this out for two weeks. Hillary won. But she lost all the momentum.

Good game America.

So if MSNBC is the Place for Politics?

Why in the blue hell are they spending a good forty minutes on an apartment fire?

Isn’t there at least 470 major political races?
Isn’t there a general playing hypeman for an unnecessary war?
Shouldn’t there be a preview of the Pennsylvania primary?
Shouldn’t we be calling Hillary to end the campaign, I mean, if the horse race ends, then you can start reporting on seniors in an apartment fire?

But yeah. Place for Politcs. My ass.
