Why the Seattle Sonics scare me?

I am an idealist. I like to believe the best in people. I know, right? I may talk up a cynical game, but all in all I just want to be hugged and told I’m doing a good job.

What does this have to do with the Sonics? Everything.

See, the owners of the Seattle Sonics want to move the team to Oklahoma City. They’ve always wanted to move the team to Oklahoma City. And here’s the thing. They are only moving for a new stadium.

Greedy owners betraying fans for a new stadium?!

I know. Like the Colts, Oilers, or the Raiders before Al Davis became King Lear, Tom Ward and Clay Bennett have this team on a freight train to Oklahoma City. But unlike the NFL teams, who had the balls to announce their intent to move without saying we’re going to do everything they can to stay in Baltimore, Houston, or LA?

They were playing both sides of the fence. And David Stern let them. David Stern saw the stunning profits that the NOOCH brought to the NBA, and said let’s get some team into the boonies permanently. This begins the slippery slope.

So what does this mean? The Bucks are gone. Flat out. Someone’s going to take the team off of Herb Kohl’s hands, and they are gone.

I am sad.
