The Grand National Championships

October 15, 2007

So my internet friend who dated Brian Roberts’ ex has a blog.

And in this blog, he asked the Philadelphia Phillies to please, please resign Aaron Rowand. I personally disagreed with the premise, but we all have our homerism mishagoes. I would love the Brewers to sign a 36 year-old catcher for 40 million dollars. But hey, that’s just me.

But apparently, Aaron Rowand has a high self-opinion of his worth. That’s right. 6 years, 84 Million dollars. 14 million dollars per season for an marginally above average baseball player. His OPS+ is 106, his range factor is average. For that? He’s 1 million dollars less per season than Torii Hunter?

P’shaw.

He’s not even near the level of Andruw Jones. And that includes the fact than Andruw slogged through his walk year. If you let Rowand name his price, you have found yourself in posession of an albatross.

And he may not even be the best Center Field albatross available.
