The Grand National Championships

October 4, 2007

I have an invention that needs to happen.

I am a fantasy baseball player as well as fantasy football. I try not to over extend myself, but this year, I did. I was in 5 Yahoo leagues. Last year? I was in 2.

One first place, one second. But that’s neither here nor there.

This year is where it gets funny. I kind of got busy with other stuff, and had 10 days in August without a computer. I was in five leagues. Three roto. Two head to head.

I stopped searching my leagues nigh the end of July. I made an awful trade and just kind of disappeared. It was Ryan Braun for Weeks, Hunter Pence, and Brian Fuentes or something. I did not return until today.

Sure, I didn’t win my head-to-head leagues. That’s to be expected. They are week to week things. But I…with no playing for eight-to-ten weeks, ran the table in my roto leagues.

Seriously.

You don’t believe me? Check the standings.

Yay! I am winners!

Okay. I know what you’re thinking. You just made this post to brag on your skills. And yes, in a way you are right. But I do have advice for your Yahoos and your CBS Sportslines.

First half fantasy sports. You play to the all star break. And then you’re done. You will get competitve leagues. You will have people saying, you know what? I’ll try basketball. Heck, I’ll even take a gander at hockey.

Because clearly, if you can have a guy like me hold on to win without making a move for 8 to 10 weeks? You need to try something different for the competition factor. Because I’m not proud. I’m ashamed I put it in cruise control.

First half fantasy sports. It is an idea whose time has come.

Vote to end your fantasy sports at the all-star game.
